Crafting System
Turn scrap into survival
Crafting in Permafrost turns scavenged scrap into the tools, clothing and shelter that keep you alive. An overview of how gathering, crafting and progression connect.
Crafting is how you survive in Permafrost. The old world left behind everything you need, scattered through ruins and wreckage, and crafting is the system that turns that scrap into the gear that keeps you alive. This is a confirmed pillar of the game, though specific recipes remain expected until launch.
Gather, then build
Crafting begins with scavenging. You strip materials from abandoned shelters and ruined buildings, then turn them into tools, warm clothing, medical supplies and the components for shelter. Because the cold punishes long trips, efficient gathering and smart crafting go hand in hand.
Crafting as a key
Progress in Permafrost is largely earned through crafting. Better gear unlocks survival in colder, more dangerous biomes, and much of your advancement is gated behind restoring shelters and repairing machines. The deeper you want to push, the more your crafting has to keep up.
Keep it maintained
Gear degrades with use, and worn equipment protects you less. Maintenance is part of the loop: repair your tools and patch your clothing so they hold up when conditions turn. For a practical breakdown of what to make first, see the crafting guide.
