Wildlife & Threats
The cold is not the only predator
Beyond the cold, Permafrost's frozen world holds dangers: aggressive wildlife and other survivors. An overview of the threats that hunt you and how to handle them.
The cold is the headline threat in Permafrost, but it is not the only thing hunting you. Official footage shows aggressive wildlife, including bears, and a world where humanity survives in scattered groups that are not always friendly. The game carries a mature rating in part for its depictions of violence against humans and animals, so expect real danger. Specifics are expected until launch.
Predators
Wildlife such as bears can turn deadly fast. In the open, a predator that closes the distance while you are already managing the cold is a serious problem. Weapons help, but ammunition and durability are finite, and a loud fight can attract more attention than it resolves.
Other survivors
In a collapsed world, other people are a wildcard. Some encounters may be hostile, and a frozen ruin can hide an ambush as easily as it hides loot. Read situations carefully before committing.
Your best early warning
This is where your dog companion earns its keep. Its keen senses warn you of danger before you stumble into it, giving you the option to avoid a fight entirely. In Permafrost, the survivor who sees the threat first usually lives, and avoidance is often smarter than a confrontation you did not plan.
