Frozen Cities

Buried skylines, rich and dangerous

The frozen cities of Permafrost are the buried skylines of the old world: dense with loot and shelter, but also with hazards and rival survivors. A profile of urban survival in the ice.

The frozen cities are among the most striking sights in Permafrost: snow-buried skylines and the gutted shells of skyscrapers, with the shattered Moon hanging over them. They are also some of the richest and most dangerous places to scavenge. As the full map is not yet public, treat this profile as expected.

Why you go there

Cities are where civilization stored its resources, and that makes them dense scavenging grounds. Ruined buildings offer materials, supplies and ready-made shelter among the wreckage. For a survivor short on gear, a city run can pay off fast.

Why they are dangerous

That density cuts both ways. Tight, broken sightlines hide predators and rival survivors, and a ruined structure can be as unstable as it is sheltering. Cities reward caution: move deliberately, keep your dog close for early warnings, and do not get so deep into a building that the way out becomes a trap when the weather turns.

Survivor’s read

Treat a frozen city as a high-risk, high-reward expedition. Go in with a plan, a route back to warmth, and the discipline to leave before the cold or the locals decide you have overstayed.
