Hunting, Food & Water

Keep the body fueled

Surviving Permafrost means more than fighting the cold. Hunting, food and water keep your body fueled and functional. An overview of sustenance in the frozen world.

The cold gets top billing in Permafrost, but it is not the only thing that can kill you. Hunger, thirst and exhaustion drain you in the background, and keeping your body fueled is part of every survivor’s routine. Specifics here are expected based on trailers and developer material.

Hunting

Official footage shows survivors hunting wildlife such as deer with a bow in the snowy forests, so the frozen world is not entirely barren. Hunting is a way to secure food away from the ruins, though it carries its own risks: predators share those same woods, and a gunshot or a struggle can attract worse company.

Scavenging supplies

Alongside hunting, you scavenge food and other supplies from the ruins of the old world. As with all scavenging in Permafrost, the limiting factor is the cold: you can only stay out so long before warmth becomes the priority again.

Manage it alongside warmth

Food and water work in concert with warmth and rest. Let any of them slide and your stamina and health suffer, which makes everything else more dangerous. Plan expeditions so you are not solving a food crisis and a cold crisis at the same time. Your dog companion helps here, spotting resources and threats as you forage.
