Glaciers & Ice Fields
Beautiful, open, and lethal
The glaciers and open ice fields of Permafrost are the coldest, most exposed terrain in the game, lit by the aurora and the shattered Moon. A profile of survival at the frozen edge.
If the tundra is unforgiving, the glaciers are the frozen edge of the world. Official screenshots show survivors crossing open ice beneath a green aurora and the cracked Moon, some of the most beautiful and most lethal imagery in Permafrost. Treat this profile as expected until the full map is confirmed.
The harshest cold
Glaciers and open ice fields are where the cold is at its most extreme and cover is at its scarcest. There is little to break the wind and few natural places to shelter, so exposure is constant. This is not terrain to wander into early.
Late-game ground
Because of that, glaciers read as late-game expedition territory: places you reach once your clothing, shelter network and planning are good enough to survive the trip. Pushing here too soon is how survivors freeze with the aurora overhead.
Survivor’s read
Respect the glaciers. Bring your best gear, watch the weather closely, plan a hard route back to warmth, and keep your dog at your side. The reward is reaching the parts of the world few survivors ever see.
