The backbone of the loop
Tools sit at the center of the crafting loop. They unlock and speed up gathering, let you repair and dismantle salvage, and enable the building that turns the wilderness into a base. As Rook, an engineer by trade, working with tools and machines is meant to be one of your character’s strengths.
Scavenged and crafted
Like most gear, tools are both scavenged from the ruins and crafted from what you recover. Early on, even basic tools meaningfully expand what you can do, which is why they sit near the top of most crafting priorities.
Keep them working
Tools wear down with use. A dull or broken tool slows everything else, so maintenance is part of the routine. Keep your kit in good repair and it will keep the rest of your survival running. For where to start, see the crafting guide.
