Ice Forests
Cover, game, and predators
The ice forests of Permafrost offer cover, firewood and wildlife to hunt, but the trees that shelter you also hide predators. A profile of surviving the frozen woods.
Where the tundra is open and exposed, the ice forests are close and shadowed. Official footage shows survivors moving through snow-laden woods, stalking deer with a bow. The forest is one of the more forgiving biomes for the wind, but it has dangers of its own. This profile is expected until the game is live.
What it offers
The trees do real work. They break the wind, which slows the cold’s drain, and they provide cover for moving unseen. Forests are also a source of firewood and natural materials, and they hold game: deer and other wildlife make the woods one of the better places to hunt for food.
What it hides
The same cover that helps you helps predators. Low visibility between the trees means a bear or other threat can be close before you see it, and a hunt can quickly become a fight. Keep your dog close, since its senses cut through exactly the kind of ambush the forest enables.
Survivor’s read
The ice forest is a place to gather and hunt, not to wander carelessly. Use the cover, take what the woods offer, and stay alert to the fact that you are not the only thing hunting in them.
